GBSN is seeking a Communications & Media Officer to oversee GBSN’s marketing & communications online and in print. The Communications & Media Officer will maintain a compelling and current website and ensure that marketing materials across various media are consistent in message. This position will also take on the technical responsibilities of daily maintenance of GBSN’s online presence including website, web portal, social networks and other online media. The Communications & Media Officer will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer and will be a key member of the GBSN team in defining message, implementing strategy, and identifying future growth opportunities.

Responsibilities
Strategy implementation
• Undertake communications activities for GBSN projects, and participate as a full member in project teams
• Help GBSN to stay abreast of communication opportunities and trends which would benefit the organization and its stakeholders
• Build and maintain external relations with the media and external communications service providers
• Track industry trends in new media and identify opportunities for engagement
• Define, develop and execute GBSN’s communication strategy
Brand
• Implement the communication strategy, guidelines and templates, ensuring that the GBSN brand is reflected in all internal and external communications
• Improve, maintain, and work with the rest of the organization to ensure a consistent “voice” (tone, brevity, diction, etc.) in all communications.
• Identify and execute strategies to improve, promote and clarify the GBSN’s brand, working with the rest of the product team to improve the product accordingly. Brand awareness should be promoted within the organization and externally to partners, projects and donors.
Marketing
• Manage the graphic needs of GBSN including undertaking basic graphic design in-house and liaising with external designers
• Write and/or edit content for communication purposes including press releases, blogs, articles and other marketing materials.
• Create and review printed external communications
Online presence
• Develop and use innovative tools and promotional material for effective knowledge sharing, networking and resource mobilization.
• Coordinate with program teams to produce compelling multimedia content
• Assist with media and development outreach efforts
• Maintain and create multimedia content for GBSN’s social media portfolio including Facebook, You Tube, Twitter, LinkedIn and additional multimedia platforms
• Create and review outbound donor communications on our website, e-mail, and social networks.
• A Bachelors or Masters degree in related subject required.
• 2-3 years demonstrated experience across a range of communications functions (e.g. media, graphic design, marketing, corporate communications); non-profit experience desired
• Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills
• Knowledge and Experience in design and layout; knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite required
• Familiarity with social media and online communication, including social networking, social bookmarking and community building
• Familiarity with Salesforce
• Knowledge of MS office and familiarity with Macs.
• Knowledge and experience with html required, Joomla experience preferred
• Video editing knowledge and experience desirable
• French and/or Spanish language skills desirable.
• Ability to implement multiple projects and priorities simultaneously with ease
• Ability to develop, execute, and iterate an effective marketing strategy with limited resources.
