An investment analyst to participate in all aspects of our investment activity in Africa, from deal sourcing to investment supervision

GBF is an impact investment organization that provides investment capital and capacity building to high impact businesses in several developing countries across the globe. GBF’s global approach is to build and support these businesses, which provide sustainable economic opportunities to millions of people at the base of the economic pyramid (BoP). The businesses empower the poor in developing countries as independent entrepreneurs and consumers of affordable goods and services.

GBF is looking to recruit an investment analyst to participate in all aspects of our investment activity in Africa, from deal sourcing to investment supervision. The analyst will be based in GBF’s Nairobi office and report to the Africa Portfolio Manager based in Washington, DC. International travel may be required.

The main tasks and responsibilities of the analyst will be as follows:

     -Support Investment Officers with sourcing and screening new investment opportunities in Africa; conduct due diligence, including financial due diligence and modeling, assessing social returns on investments, and measuring fit with GBF strategy;
     -Analyze financial information prepared by existing investees and prepare financial models for new and existing investments
     -Conduct industry, market and company research in the context of exploring investment opportunities, and assessing business risks;
     -Prepare investment-related documents for internal and external reporting Maintain relationships with clients, consultants, technical assistance providers and other partner organizations in the region;
     -Developing and maintaining tools that track Africa Team goals and activities
     -Take on other ad hoc assignments related to GBF’s mission as needed.

qualifications & requirements

GBF is looking for candidates who are experienced, passionate about GBF’s mission, and demonstrate the flexibility to work in a fast-paced start-up environment.
Specific qualifications include:

     -Bachelor’s or equivalent degree (finance and investment field preferred);
     -Strong financial and analytical skills; modeling skills preferred
     -Good interpersonal and social skills and ability to encourage team spirit;
     -Experience living and/or working in Sub-Saharan Africa;
     -Demonstration of an understanding of the impact investing field;
     -Excellent oral and written communication skills in English (Swahili a plus);
     -Computer literacy including Microsoft Office (strong skills in Excel required);
     -Ability to travel internationally;
     -Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
